The Pygmy Island
A DND 5e One-Shot
Casper Norixius (Dragonborn Fighter), Katniss Cain (Human Sorcerer), Parrott Aster (Human Barbarian), and Lorenzo (Woodelf Ranger) find themselves on a shore after their ship got shipwrecked in a super cyclone.
The group quickly comes to the sense, collects their things before deciding to reach the nearest settlement to seek help.
They start walking down the path in the middle of the forest towards a smoke coming in the distance.
All of a sudden, they are attacked by vicious hawks. Katniss uses a Shocking Grasp to electrocute some birds, while Lorenzo uses his Longbow to shoot down a few. Parrott wildly swings his Heavy Axe in vain. Before Casper could hit something, the birds start to retreat. Their attack is easily handled my the random group of strangers.
Their path leads them to a village where they find tiny pygmy native people (have a size of only 3-4 feet) who treat them like godsend messengers as their scouts witnessed them killing the birds, which were harassing the villagers. The village had many huts and looked like at least 100 pygmies lived there.
The Villagers throw a banquet in honor of the newcomers. But surprisingly only 30 villagers had turned up. Suspecting some foul play, the party members being hatching a plan. During the banquet, Casper starts to play melodious songs in his flute to keep the natives distracted.
In the meantime, Katniss starts to investigate along with Parrott and Lorenzo.
On investigation finds that more than half the village is unwell and the reason for which the reason is unknown. The village elder seeks the help of their god sent saviors.
The party test the food and find that the water is polluted. It is the reason for the sickness and looks for the water source.
When everyone else is willing, Katniss is not convinced to help the pygmies. Parott tries to convince Katniss in vain— finally, Casper reasons with her and makes her come along.
As they near the cave from where the stream is trickling down, Katniss uses her stealth ability and scouts the cave.
She finds the cave is occupied by something but the creature is alerted by her presence.
Casper places a trap at the cave entrance in order to lure the creature. Meanwhile, Parrott finds a side entrance to the cave. As the party enters the side entrance, one after the other, they are hit with a nauseating smell. They all feel the effect of poisonous vapors in the cave.
They encounter a Gray Ooze!
Blinded by rage, Parrott starts swinging his axe and finds that whenever he hits the monster his weapon has started corroding.
Lorenzo and Katniss start using their long-range attacks to damage the gelatinous monster.
The monster launches against Parrott and his armor starts corroding from the acid damage.
Casper uses his protection skill and starts to take all the damage from the monster.
After a lengthy battle of corrosive nature (just for pun), the team finally kills the creature, with Parrott landing the final blow. His javelin lands on the monster with such a vicious force that it made the monster explode violently.
Just then the pygmy people who were following the party enter the cave and rejoice in the defeat of the monster.
But they become angry after finding that the stream has become more polluted as a result of the monster exploding at the source of their stream.
They start chasing the party as they are not ready to hear any words from the heroes. With pitchforks and swords swinging, the tiny pygmies gave chase.
The party finds a magical portal deep inside the cave and makes a hasty retreat through that!
